FNM is a multi-communal initiative that works towards reconciliation in Cyprus through different forms of art and culture. Guided by the motto “I Understand and Forgive the Past, I Love and Generate the Future”, FNM challenges the traditional role of museums in today’s societies while aiming to revitalise the city of Famagusta and reconnect the old city and other neighbourhoods with Varosha.
The initiative moves towards this goal through actions such as creating digital audiovisual archives, leading walking tours and organising community-focused events that support the social, cultural and political reactivation of the city. It aims to engage people by opening space for public dialogue and encouraging artistic, environmental and social participation across communities in Cyprus.
FNM encourages people to collaborate across dividing lines and supports creative individuals and professionals to work together in new and inclusive ways. It promotes a stronger sense of citizenship by inviting people to take part and widens access to cultural commons so that more groups can engage. It also strengthens volunteerism by bringing together committed volunteers who help drive its activities.
In a time marked by separation, segregation and exclusion, FNM explores how culture can create new forms of connection. Through its ongoing actions, it offers a dynamic and sustainable platform for creative synergies and helps build lasting collaborations between communities across Cyprus.
FNM’s activities are designed towards drafting hospitable and sustainable futures by encouraging a creative, open and productive dialogue amongst different groups of citizens. FNM strives to promote inter communal cooperation, contributing to the collective efforts of civil society in their engagement with peace building and intercultural dialogue. FNM’s activities aim at creating stronger relations and a more profound integration of the participating institutions with the new social realities in Cyprus and especially Famagusta. Through training, experience sharing and participation, FNM engages the partners and the participants in an active, progressive and sustainable intercultural collaboration towards social cohesion and inclusion.
