Active Citizens Fund Programme

Famagusta New Museum: I Understand and Forgive the Past, I Love and Generate the Future

It was a 20-month project funded by the Active Citizens Fund Cyprus and implemented by Pierides Foundation and KP10. The project sought to bridge the gap and encourage creative people and professionals to cooperate beyond constraints and dividing lines. FNM envisaged a stronger concept of citizenship by promoting active engagement and supporting equal sharing through making cultural commons accessible to wider groups. It also aimed to foster volunteerism by creating a dedicated group of active volunteers who implemented several of the project’s activities.

The project explored how, in an era of division, segregation and exclusion, culture could play an active role in enabling new forms of community relations to emerge. Through its various activities, FNM sought to move away from separation by providing a strong, active and sustainable platform for creative synergies. It aimed to build sustainable collaborations between the main communities of Cyprus.

Project Activities

FNM’s activities were designed to shape hospitable and sustainable futures by encouraging creative, open and productive dialogue among different groups of citizens. FNM worked to promote intercommunal cooperation, contributing to the collective efforts of civil society in peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue. Its activities aimed to create stronger relationships and deeper integration between participating institutions and the evolving social realities in Cyprus, particularly in Famagusta. Through training, experience-sharing and participation, FNM engaged its partners and participants in an active, progressive and sustainable intercultural collaboration that supported social cohesion and inclusion.

The project sought to enhance capacity-building and strengthen the sustainability of the two partners, other collaborating CSOs and the sector as a whole.
